Member benefit: Turku Swing Society

Turku Swing Society’s dance courses are starting! Those who have paid CampusSport’s sports fee will get discounted prices for the courses.

Turku Swing Society (TSS) is a rock’n’swing dance club whose primary goal is to spread knowledge on swing dances and Argentine tango. We organize dance courses and events throughout the year and we are a society where everyone is welcome!

In our beginners’ courses, you will get to learn basic patterns and techniques and how to build a connection with your partner. You do not need your own partner or any previous dancing experience, since the courses start from the very basics and you only need to know how to count to eight.

West coast swing came about in the 40’s on the west coast of the United States. The characteristic smooth, gliding movement is significantly different from the other bouncy rock’n’swing dances. The music is also vastly different from other rock’n’swing dances. West coast swing can very well be danced to, for example, modern R’n’B music. It is a living, constantly developing dance, but most of all it’s very addictive.

Lindy hop is the first of the swing dances, and it is the one from which all other rock’n’swing dances have later evolved. It has been around since the roaring 20’s! It is an energetic, rhythmic, and versatile partner dance that is now danced all over the world. It can be danced to both fast and slow jazz and swing music, primarily in an open dance position, with improvised moves and patterns.

The first class of each course is a free try out lesson that is open to all without prior commitment!
